Kakushite! Makina-san!! set the tone of its short-form ecchi anime immediately with the titular character, Makina, enjoying a bubble bath and dressing in sexy lingerie.
Makina is a popular girl at high school who cares about everyone, including nerdy robotics hobbyists like Eita. She gifts him a puffy vulva panty shot with her concern over falling down a flight of stairs to save a robot from harm.
The opening credits include cheesecake and pie. Oppai, that is! As a sexbot, Makina is always DTF (Down To Fuck), which translates to “ヤリタイガー！” (yaritaiga- — I want to fuck!) in Japanese. Also, the title is a pun on Ecce Homo (Behold, the Man) from the Latin. Kakushite has several phonetic spellings in Japanese. The first is (斯くして) “thus, or behold,” which evokes the philosophic underpinnings of sci-fi plots referencing classical discussions of the Self. But kakushite could also spell hide, threaten, or behead (隠くして, 嚇くして, 馘くして). Makina is a repurposed assassin droid, Eita needs to hide her, and her head separates from her shoulders several times during the season, so the puns lend themselves to the plot.
Makina is the friendliest, most beautiful girl in Eita’s high school, but foreshadowing shows her interest in robots. She praised Eita for saving a hobby droid from falling down some stairs and paid special attention to a presentation from a droid entrepreneur. That droid researcher, Alma Sakimori, makes droid clones in her image.
But the droid industry is not for the faint of heart. Military and intelligence applications for androids that can infiltrate human groups are numerous. Makina was an assassin bot whose handlers gave her a high school girl cover. But then someone boobytrapped her house and blew it up! Damaged, she sought out an off-grid safehouse and someone she could manipulate. She hadn’t even had a first seduction mission yet, so she chose to take advantage of Eita! He followed her manual’s instructions for self-repair and recharging.
Makina woke up in the morning fully recharged and functional. Like all annoying main characters in ecchi shows, Eita expressed his sexual hesitancy. Makina explained her sexbot functions as assassination tools, but had yet to employ them. She wants to give Eita her first time as a sexbot to reward him for taking care of her.
Will Eita overcome his cherry boy energy and treat Makina like a sex doll? Doubtful, but Makina can chip away at his resistance.
